Better Call Saul (Spoiler Free!)
When I first watched better call saul I was still riding the high of the Breaking Bad ending as well as El Camino. The ending was maybe the best that there could ever be in a tv show, an absolutely explosive finale. How do you possibly follow up a show like breaking bad? The answer involves pumping the brakes a little bit. Now ultimately the enjoyment from these two show comes from obviously the incredible characters, but also the big schemes, it's just that Better Call Saul does its schemes in a much different way than breaking bad. While Breaking Bad has a lot of big explosions and killing and murder, BCS is more focused on messing with people in a very small circle. Even if a lot of the events in BCS are on a smaller scale I'd argue they are just as fun to watch as anyhting else in BrBa. I mean you see this straight form the first episode with Jimmy's scam against the Kettleman's going haywire. It's just fun to watch him get up to his trycky lawyer shenanigans.
Now this os not to say that the show has no big cool action explosion beef testosterone scenes at all, but they only make up half the show. BCS is divided into two parts, the lawyer world, and what I'll call the crime world. the crime world part of the show typically focuses on Mike and other people he knows getting into disputes with many different groups of people, be it the cartel or some cops. This contrast between the lawyer world and the crime world makes it all the more fun to watch when the two worlds collide, in fact I'd say those parts are the best parts of the show, a good example being the beginning of episode 2, where saul has to essentially be a lawyer to save the lives of the two skater dudes he got mixed up in his scam. There are other instances of the crossover between the worlds that start to happen more frequently as the show goes on but I'm not gonna get too much into them.
Now onto the other major part of the show, the characters. BCS is a prequel to BrBa so naturally you would expect to see why the characters ended up the way they are, specifically with Saul and Mike, as well as a few other who make cameos throughout BCS. The new characters are also incredible. I didn't think I would like Kim nearly as much as I did but I can't imagine the show without her. And without getting into any spoilers there is a villain who appears in Season 4 that is just fucking insane I'm not even gonna say anything you just gotta go watch the show believe me it is worth it.
So that is my review of Better Call Saul. If I had to give it a rating I would probably give it an 4/5. I think it's not as good as Breaking Bad, which I would give a 5/5, but it's still just a great show that I think anyone who finished BrBa would greatly enjoy.
(a little disclaimer about my scores, a 5/5 does not mean that a show is perfect, but its just that say I had a tier list of every show I watched then that show would end up in S tier. 4/5 would be A and then 3/5 B and so on and so on.)
